The Rio Pueblo originates at Blue Lake on the Taos Pueblo, below the tallest mountains in northern New Mexico. After flowing through the Taos valley it carves a steep canyon to join the Rio Grande in its gorge. Taos has its name from the short red willows you can see along the banks of the river.
